Lie to me!

Lie to Me

Lie to Me

Early this year the tv show Lie to Me had it’s premiere on Fox network, the show is about Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and his company The Lightman Group. Cal is a human lie detector. He looks for dozens of subtle tells in the face and body language to see if someone is telling the truth. With this talent the lightman group help the police and other agency’s solve their cases.

The fact that we are not following someone working as a police officer or agent of some kind opens a lot of possibilities when it comes to diversity of the cases in the show.

Lie to Me is very well made but the one thing that really kept me wanting more is the performance Tim Roth delivers as Cal Lightman. Cal is obnoxious, devious and not very likable but that is what makes it so good. He is not working alone though, with him he got his business partner Dr. Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams), his prodigy Ria Torres (Monica Raymund) and Eli Loker (Brendan Hines) whom all delivers solid performances.

I found myself very intrigued by the “science” behind their skills of telling when someone is hiding something and i must admit that i have tried to watch out for these signs when speaking to people around me. :)

In Sweden season 1 of  the show has aired on TV400 and i think they have picked up season 2 as well (currently airing schmearing in usa).
If you have the chance to watch Lie to Me, give it a chance! It’s not mindblowingly awesome but it is a nice way to waste some time and as mentioned earlier Tim Roth really do deliver a very solid performance in this show.

Even things that go bump in the night needs protection

November 9th, 2009

And now to another wonderful sci-fi show (yes we do love sci-fi here at Sanctuary is a show for us sci-fi lovers that just keeps getting better and better with every episode. The Sanctuary is a global network of safehouses for abnormals (think monsters and other mythical creatures). Some are in need of protection and some needs to be locked up for our protection. Dr. Helen Magnus (played by Amanda Tapping from Stargate SG-1), her daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup),  Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), a forensic psychiatrist, and the others  has their hand full trying to track down abnormals to protect and study.  As one might suspect, there are people in the world with other plans for the abnormals.

The first season started a little slow but by the end of season one it was almost impossible to wait for the next episode, not to mention the next season. Season two started with a full on war between the Sanctuary and the Kabal (evil group set on world domination) and just keeps getting better. My favourite episode so far is easy “Pavor Nocturnus” (se02ep05). In this episode Magnus wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world where most of mankind has turned into cannibalistic monsters. Loved it!

What also sets Sanctuary apart from other schmears is the new techniques and technology they use. The series is shoot extensivley on green screen, with virtual sets and awesome visual effects. Sanctuary received a Primetime Emmy nomination this year for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series.

Sanctuary is a feast for sci-fi lovers and I’m sure others can enjoy it to. It’s always exciting and funny. Visit the shows website to learn more and most importantly watch Sanctuary! You won’t regret it!

All access pass to Spookville. Comes with a free lunch and a decoder ring.

V 2009

V 2009

V 2009

The first episode of the remake of the classic scifi serie V aired last night and here are my first impressions.
(Beware of some possible spoilers below, especially if you haven’t seen the original.)

I am a big fan of the 1983 classic scifi serie V so my first thought when i saw the announcement for the remake was “oh no, are they really gonna slaughter this fantastic show with a remake”. Needless to say, it was with great skepticism i started to watch the pilot of V 2009.

The storyline is true to the original mini series and i must admit i found myself interested almost from the beginning. The buildup before the arrival of the motherships was quite good and i liked the fact that they choose not to show the whole ships (you could see parts of the ships in reflections in buildings etc.) in the beginning, it added nicely to the suspense.
One of the best things in the original series was the suspense and the feeling that something was not right from the beginning and i think that they managed to capture that in the remake as well (so far), creds in this regard goes to Morena Baccarin (Stargate, Firefly…) as the visitors supreme commander Anna.

You’ll see some other familiar actors/actresses among the cast – Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Joel Gretsch (The 4400), Scott Wolf (Everwood, The nine) and Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dollhouse) to name a few. The acting was ok overall and i do hope they will let the different characters develop during the series.

This brings me to what i hope this series will be. First i really hope they resist the urge to make this into an actionpacked show with nothing more than over the top effects because there is much more interesting topics to exploit – the political game, cultural clashes, a society divided etc. This was what made for example the remake of Battlestar Galactica so fracking good :)

As with all tv series one have to watch a couple of episodes to actually get a feel for it and i will continue to watch V 2009, hoping for something great.

On a sidenote, i just love the geeky references in the original show like for instance in the scene when the alien workers lands outside the NY plant and the band plays the theme from Star Wars :D

The Phone – MTV Reality Show

April 23rd, 2009

MTV generally sucks, the presenters are annoying and the music is 90% crap. However, they might have come up with something worth watching (when you have nothing better to do) – The Phone.

Best of all, you can watch the schmear online :)

Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire

Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire

Check out the new comedy/fantasy show from Comedy Central called Kröd Mändoon – and the Flaming Sword of Fire!

I have watched the first 3 episodes and i must admit that i laughed through all of them. I especially like the evil Chancellor Dongalor :)

The humor level is pretty low and there are a lot of sexjokes etc, but i think it makes it interesting when combined with the fantasysetting.

Check out Comedy Centrals Kröd Mändoon page for more schmear like videos and whatnot!
