Say it isn’t so

April 4th, 2009

chuckSo today I woke up happy, it’s Saturday and the weather outside is schmear. And then…

I just read an article on tv.com about the top 10 shows in danger of getting canceled and well, if the rumors are true it’s not very good news. On the list there were shows like Cold Case (ok, maybe that wouldn’t be so bad), Knight Rider (expected) and My name is Earl. So far not so bad, but then we have Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesReaper, Castle, Dollhouse and topping the list at number one is Chuck. Why? Why cancel shows that have barely started, and why Chuck, one of the best shows on right now?

Read the article here, if you want that is..

I hope these are just rumors and that the networks have some sense left in them not to cancel more brilliant shows before there time.

This is NOT awesome!

The rise of a fallen star?

April 1st, 2009

A few days ago I was reading Metro on the train to school and I saw a notice in the newspaper that Edward Furlong, our alltime favourite T2 charachter was gonna make his awaited return to the bigscreen. Wooptidoo! I thought to myself but the feeling disappeared as quickly as it came over me. Because as I scrolled down the text I found out that the role Edward was gonna play was in Uwe Bolls next movie “Darfur“.  For all of you out there who don´t know who Uwe Boll is here is a quick recap of a few movies he has done:

BloodRayne 1,2 & 3

Alone in the dark 1 & 2

Postal

Far Cry

The reason I bring these movies up is because alot of people including me like seeing movies being made based on games instead of the other way around. But when it comes to the standard of almost all of Uwes film they are very low. Postal was ok as a movie beacuse the movie was just as crappy and weird/sick as the game but all the other game licenses he as accuired he´s also been able to completly ruin.

But how about this Darfur movie? Is there a small chance that we have a new Peter Jackson twist on our hands? Other rumored poeple to star in the movie is Billy Zane(The Phantom), Kristanna Loken(T3) both which have been in some previously named Uwe movies.

Anyheuw, this could be the rise of two fallen stars if the movie really does well but if you ask me, don´t  get your schmears up!

They can be anyone you want…

March 9th, 2009

dollhouse-cast-photo-whedonAfter a few episodes it’s time to review Joss Whedon’s newest creation Dollhouse. The series follows Echo (Eliza Dushku, played Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), an active at the dollhouse, a place where dreams and fantasies come true. The idea is that these actives as they are called are ”blank slates” and can be inprinted with what ever personality and qualities the client wants. After the mission/engagement is over all their memories along with the personality is erased.

The storyline follows Echo on her missions but also the people running the dollhouse and the backstory that’s been unraveling in the first episodes about the active Alfa, an active gone wrong. We’ve also seen the cop Paul Ballard, who tries to find the dollhouse even though noone thinks it exists. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll stop there.

Like most of Whedon’s creations he has created many exciting storylines weaved together to an addictive series. Being a Firefly-fan I hade high hopes for Dollhouse and so far I like it. Following the many storylines and a new mission in every episode the series has all the potential to keep up the interest of the viewer for at least a couple of seasons. And like many sci-fi series there have allready been some familiar faces. Paul Ballard is played by Tahmoh Penikett, also known as Helo from Battlestar Galactica, there’s Reed Diamond who played Jack Vasser (the brother) in Journeyman and in episode four (”Gray Hour”) we could see Tony Amendola, Master Bra’tac in Stargate SG-1 and so on.

I like Joss Whedon’s way to tell a story and so far the actors in Dollhouse have done a great job making this series one of the most promising sci-fi shows out there today. I’m hocked on Dollshouse and hope that it doesn’t get cancelled like Firefly (if you haven’t seen Firefly, do it now!). So far I would give it a 7/10, definitely a series worth watching!

Tonight another new series premiers, Castel, with the brilliant Nathan Fillion (Captain Mal Reynolds from Firefly). Check it out and there will be a review up here on schmear.me shortly.

Take my love, take my land, Take me where I cannot stand, I don’t care, I’m still free, You can’t take the schmear from me :D

Some new trailers to check out

March 6th, 2009

star-trekNow there is a new trailer out for the new Star Trek movie opening on May 8th, and WOW! I for one can’t wait for it and think it’s about time they give us more Star Trek. It’s been too long since Enterprise was schmeared cancelled.

Watch the third trailer here

Another new trailer recently came out for Pubilc Enemies, the new movie based on the true story of the notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. This era in the American history is one of the most exhiting and stylish (according to me, who doesn’t love those hats?) of them all, and let’s face it, neither Depp nor Bale have never let us down before. Looking forward to July 1st!

Low grade gags or clever comedy

March 2nd, 2009

The past few weeks i have turned to some comedys to balance out the serious albeit excellent oscarnominated movies.

sexdriveFirst is the unrated version of Sean Anders movie Sex Drive wich on the paper is a typical “i’m a virgin and this is my only chance to f**k high school roadmovie” but it actually stood out from the rest. First of all i have to confess i haven’t watched the regular version so i can’t vouch for it but the unrated version was hilarious.

I wont go in to details but the one thing that made me appreciate Sex Drive was the character Lance (played by Clark Duke), his take on life is refreshing and he holds the rest of the cast together. Other noteworthy performances is delivered by James Marsden and Seth Green. Favourite scene has to be the one where Lance meets Seth Green’s character Ezekiel (an sarcastic amish guy) for the first time.

rolemodelsThe other comedy that turned out to be better than expected was Role Models starring Paul Rudd, Sean William Scott and Cristopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse.
Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott work really good together in this movie, Paul delivers his “sick of the world” sarcasm brilliantly and Sean plays the type of character we have seen him do many times before – a happy moron :)
“Mclovin” plays a dork who is seriously into live action roleplaying, to the point that he’s always wearing a cape.

The movie kept a good pace through out and i was never bored. The thing that made Role Models stand out from the crowd was that it actually had a sound message (wich never got too serious or sweet) – do what makes you happy, no matter what anyone els tells you.

To summarize… 2 great comedys that can be watched more than one time and delivers a fair amount quotes :)
I also felt it refreshing to watch a comedy that Seth Rogen didn’t star in, he’s a funny actor but for a while there it seemed he was in every comedy released.

Infocus IN82

February 27th, 2009

After months of reading reviews and watching demos of different Full-HD projectors i finally decided to go for Infocus IN82.
The picture this beast can produce is outstanding, even right out of the box! Later on i’ll probably have an expert do a ISF-calibration but for now the issue at hand is to schmear install it and buy a screen that can do the projector justice.

I wont bore you with specs and technical data, if you’re into that stuff (i’m one of those) you can find it here!

Here are some pictures of my new baby :)

Epic!

February 27th, 2009

“Is that all?”

The wounded icebear lies flat on the ground grunting with pain. The king of the icebears, Ragnar,  stares at the miserable bear lying infront of him. Then he hits him again.

“IS THAT ALL!?”

Ragnar feel like a God in front of all the minion icebears surrounding them to watch the battle. Ragnar summon some air in his lungs and prepare to deal the deathblow. Just as he is screaming out his anger and is about to hit the wounded icebear, the wounded icebear stands up and slashes his bearclaw right at Ragnars jaw, smashing it off his head.

“That is all.”

For those of you who don´t recognise or know of this scen it´s from the movie “The Golden Compass”(2007). So what I just watched this movie this evening again for the third time. So what the movie hasn´t got the best reviews as a movie. I still think this scene is epic. Ian McKellen does the voice as the fakewounded icebear Iorek Byrnison with such intensity in his voice it gives me goose bumps everytime.

Anyhuew, the year of two thousand and nine will surely bring alot of good movies for us all to watch. And to start of with here at Schmear Me I would like to tag a few movies I´m really looking forward to see. Maybe you and I have the same taste in movies? Or maybe not. As we say in Sweden; “The taste is like the ass”, according to Google translation.

Män som hatar kvinnor

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Crank: High Voltage

Fast & Furious

Angels & Demons

X-men Origins: Wolverine

Watchmen

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Well thats just a few of the movies I wanna see this year. And you can bet there will be more tips about movies etc coming in the future here at Schmear Me.

And what a night..

February 23rd, 2009

The Oscars are over for this time, but what a night it was.  Hugh Jackman did a great job hosting, and so did all the presenters. The decor and style of this oscars was great. All the movies nominated held high standars making it hard to pick a favourite. Slumdog Millionaire won for best picture which it greatly deserved. I´m a little disappointed that Frost/Nixon didn´t get any oscars but overall pleased with the winners (even if I had rather seen Frank Langella for best actor but Sean Penn was amazing in Milk). See the list of all the winners here.

This Acadamy awards overall was probably one of the best I have seen, just look at this opening number. Keep up the good work Mr Jackman! Can´t wait for next years awards

Edit: Forgot to give credit to Anne Hathaway for her part in the opening number.
