Say it isn’t so

April 4th, 2009

chuckSo today I woke up happy, it’s Saturday and the weather outside is schmear. And then…

I just read an article on about the top 10 shows in danger of getting canceled and well, if the rumors are true it’s not very good news. On the list there were shows like Cold Case (ok, maybe that wouldn’t be so bad), Knight Rider (expected) and My name is Earl. So far not so bad, but then we have Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesReaper, Castle, Dollhouse and topping the list at number one is Chuck. Why? Why cancel shows that have barely started, and why Chuck, one of the best shows on right now?

Read the article here, if you want that is..

I hope these are just rumors and that the networks have some sense left in them not to cancel more brilliant shows before there time.

This is NOT awesome!

They can be anyone you want…

dollhouse-cast-photo-whedonAfter a few episodes it’s time to review Joss Whedon’s newest creation Dollhouse. The series follows Echo (Eliza Dushku, played Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), an active at the dollhouse, a place where dreams and fantasies come true. The idea is that these actives as they are called are ”blank slates” and can be inprinted with what ever personality and qualities the client wants. After the mission/engagement is over all their memories along with the personality is erased.

The storyline follows Echo on her missions but also the people running the dollhouse and the backstory that’s been unraveling in the first episodes about the active Alfa, an active gone wrong. We’ve also seen the cop Paul Ballard, who tries to find the dollhouse even though noone thinks it exists. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll stop there.

Like most of Whedon’s creations he has created many exciting storylines weaved together to an addictive series. Being a Firefly-fan I hade high hopes for Dollhouse and so far I like it. Following the many storylines and a new mission in every episode the series has all the potential to keep up the interest of the viewer for at least a couple of seasons. And like many sci-fi series there have allready been some familiar faces. Paul Ballard is played by Tahmoh Penikett, also known as Helo from Battlestar Galactica, there’s Reed Diamond who played Jack Vasser (the brother) in Journeyman and in episode four (”Gray Hour”) we could see Tony Amendola, Master Bra’tac in Stargate SG-1 and so on.

I like Joss Whedon’s way to tell a story and so far the actors in Dollhouse have done a great job making this series one of the most promising sci-fi shows out there today. I’m hocked on Dollshouse and hope that it doesn’t get cancelled like Firefly (if you haven’t seen Firefly, do it now!). So far I would give it a 7/10, definitely a series worth watching!

Tonight another new series premiers, Castel, with the brilliant Nathan Fillion (Captain Mal Reynolds from Firefly). Check it out and there will be a review up here on shortly.

Take my love, take my land, Take me where I cannot stand, I don’t care, I’m still free, You can’t take the schmear from me :D

Some new trailers to check out

March 6th, 2009

star-trekNow there is a new trailer out for the new Star Trek movie opening on May 8th, and WOW! I for one can’t wait for it and think it’s about time they give us more Star Trek. It’s been too long since Enterprise was schmeared cancelled.

Watch the third trailer here

Another new trailer recently came out for Pubilc Enemies, the new movie based on the true story of the notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. This era in the American history is one of the most exhiting and stylish (according to me, who doesn’t love those hats?) of them all, and let’s face it, neither Depp nor Bale have never let us down before. Looking forward to July 1st!

Keep the good schmear coming!

And what a night..

February 23rd, 2009

The Oscars are over for this time, but what a night it was.  Hugh Jackman did a great job hosting, and so did all the presenters. The decor and style of this oscars was great. All the movies nominated held high standars making it hard to pick a favourite. Slumdog Millionaire won for best picture which it greatly deserved. I´m a little disappointed that Frost/Nixon didn´t get any oscars but overall pleased with the winners (even if I had rather seen Frank Langella for best actor but Sean Penn was amazing in Milk). See the list of all the winners here.

This Acadamy awards overall was probably one of the best I have seen, just look at this opening number. Keep up the good work Mr Jackman! Can´t wait for next years awards

Edit: Forgot to give credit to Anne Hathaway for her part in the opening number.

And the schmear goes to…
